Informed consent form
This informed consent form is for individuals wishing to take part in the research via the Live online training session on Saturday 4th July 2026.
In order to prioritise the health of the voices of participants, the study is unable to include those with any known current vocal pathology or who are undergoing any vocal treatment or rehabilitation.
Title of research study project: Participant experiences of using the ‘Chiaroscuro whisper’, a specific teaching tool designed to increase vocal ease and efficiency.

Purpose of the research study:
- To explore singers’ experiences of using the ‘Chiaroscuro whisper’, a specific teaching tool designed to increase vocal ease and efficiency.
- To explore what benefits such techniques might provide for singers of various experience levels and styles of singing, and to see whether such approaches could be beneficial as an addition to vocal teacher tool kits at an earlier stage of teaching.
Procedures:
If you decide to participate, you will need to…
- Complete and submit the informed consent form below (by 5pm Thursday 9th July 2026)
- Mandy will manually enrol you on the course (by 6pm Thurs 9th July 2026)
- Create a log in for this website or download and log in to the Zenler app to gain access
- Access the course curriculum on this site or the Zenler app
- Go through the preparation materials (by the end of Friday 10th July 2026)
- Complete the pre session questionnaires (Start no later than 9:30am Sat 11th July 2026. Complete before the 10am start of session)
- Optionally record yourself singing before the session (by 10am Sat 11th July 2026)
- Attend the live online zoom training session (10am-11am Sat 11th July 2026).
You will need to join the zoom meeting on time and attend the whole session
- Complete the post session questionnaires (by 1pm Sat 11th July 2026)
- Optionally record yourself singing after the session (by 1pm Sat 11th July 2026)
- Optionally send in your before and after audio recordings (by 2pm of Sat 11th July 2026)
- Optionally complete a questionnaire regarding your responses when you listen back to your two recordings (by end Sun 12th July 2026)
The dissertation will be written based on your responses before and after the session as a comparison.
You will need to complete the questionnaires on this website, which you will be able to access through logging in via a browser or via the Zenler app. You will need to use the same email address that you give here to create a sign in for this website or to sign into the Zenler app. After submitting this Informed Consent form you will need to click the Enrol button. You will then be able to access everything you need in the 'Experiences online' course curriculum page. You will also receive an email letting you know how to access it. Please check your junk/spam if you do not receive it in your inbox, and add admin@amarisarts.com to your safe list to ensure that you receive all emails regarding this training.
Duration:
- Approx max 30mins to go through the preparation materials
- Approx max 30mins to complete the pre-session questionnaires
- (optional) Approx max 5min to record your self on your own devise singing before the session
- Approx max 1 hr for the live Online training session (which you must attend from the beginning and in full)
- (optional) Approx max 5min to record your self on your own devise singing before the session
- Approx max 30mins to complete the post-session questionnaires
- (optional) Approx max 10mins to answer questions about your experiences when you listen back to both of your recordings
Study Information:
Participants will be asked for their name, age, gender, email address and what languages they speak.
The questionnaires will enquire about the participants’:
- Singing background and any previous vocal training and/or prior knowledge
- Experiences of their singing, how they feel using their voice, how they feel about their voice and how it responds to certain tasks.
- Experience of their singing during the before and after recordings.
Participants will be asked to give their own feedback in their own words on their singing for the recordings that they optionally make of themselves before and after being the training.
Risks and Benefits:
It is hoped that participants will gain useful incites and tools from using the technique that will help them to discover greater ease and efficiency in their singing as well as other skills. Whilst risks will be mitigated against, there is always a chance that potential risks will be realised, which may include:
- Whilst your data will be stored securely and will be anonymised in the research analysis and project writeup, there is a risk of a data breach of the information you have submit.
- Whilst it is anticipated that the session will be pleasant and enjoyable, there is a very low risk of psychological or emotional distress resulting from exploring alternative vocal articulator movements. Participants can withdraw from the research at any point, without penalty.
Confidentiality:
Your privacy is important to us. All information collected during this study will be kept confidential. Your data will be stored securely and only accessible to the research team. Your identity will not be revealed in any reports or publications resulting from this study.
Your information will be kept confidential and will only be used for the purposes of this study. Online data that you submit is protected by my two-step verification log in as admin to my website. Whilst, for functionality purposes, your name will be used for your online account where your data is gathered, a pseudonym will be used throughout the analysis and write up stages of the research process.
Voluntary Participation:
Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You have the right to withdraw at any time without penalty. If you choose to withdraw, any data collected from you up to that point will be retained and used in the study unless you request otherwise.

How to Report a Concern:
If you witness any unethical behaviour, please report it immediately by sending an email detailing your concerns to: ethics@voicestudycentre.com.
Protection for Whistleblowers:
We understand that reporting unethical behavior can be daunting. Please rest assured that your identity will be kept confidential and you will be protected from any retaliation.

How to Raise a Complaint

All complaints will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated. We aim to respond to your complaint within ten working days, providing you with a resolution or a plan for addressing the issue.
